Birmingham Vision Screening Services Award

Birmingham Vision Screening Services Award

Birmingham City Council is moving forward with the award of contracts for vision screening services as part of its commitment to the Healthy Child Programme. The contract, valued at £1,233,709, is intended to commence in September 2024 and will cover a four-year period. The services aim to screen children aged 4 to 5 years for potential vision issues, specifically targeting conditions such as amblyopia, which is crucial for early developmental support.

In total, three providers have been identified: University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust, and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. All three organizations are compliance-validated existing providers which ensure a seamless transition into the new contract period. Their performance in delivering quality health services has been evidently satisfactory, fulfilling the health service requirements laid out by the authorities.

This award process follows the Provider Selection Regime (PSR), wherein the council ensures that selected providers not only meet quality standards but also deliver value effectively. Stakeholders, including local health authorities, will monitor service delivery for ongoing compliance and improvements, which include maintaining high standards while promoting accessible care for all families within the community.
