Hackney Council Awards Midwifery Contract

In a significant move towards enhancing community health services, the London Borough of Hackney has expressed its intention to award a contract for the provision of Public Health Community Midwives to the Homerton Health Foundation Trust. This contract, valued at £510,000, is aimed at offering essential support to expectant mothers and families in the Hackney and Newham areas.

The Homerton Health Foundation Trust will provide vital midwifery services during pregnancy and the early postpartum period, ensuring that women received dedicated support for up to four weeks following the birth of their child. The contract is scheduled to run for one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional two years, contingent upon service quality and budgetary considerations.

The decision to award this contract follows a recommendation from the Hackney Procurement Board, confirming that the existing provider meets the necessary performance standards. With a transparent selection process under the Provider Selection Regime, this contract not only underscores Hackney's commitment to public health but also emphasizes the importance of providing high-quality maternal care.

As part of this initiative, Hackney Council encourages any potential representations regarding the tender before the conclusion of the standstill period on 18th October 2024.
